not sure what your axe to grind is with me, I didn't say the decision was wrong. The right decision was made. It doesn't matter the split.
Of course the split matters. If you have three or four justices that are so radical that they can't even handle black letter law, the court is broken.
you say you read the opinions, I did this evening and I disagree. Alito says that some children of illegal aliens get birthright citizenship. Specifically those who do not automatically receive the nationality of their parents' native country upon birth get birthright citizenship.
Kavanaugh seems to agree with Alito.
Alito also strongly implies that children of illegal immigrants whose parents did everything within their power to become American get birthright citizenship.
Thomas seems to agree with Gorsuch and Gorsuch seems to give zero ****s in his opinion.
So I don't see this partisan split that you do.
