UNC Pembroke sophomore pitcher Harrison Holbrook committed to NC State today.

Holbrook began the season as a closer but started the last few weeks of the season.  He finished with a 3.32 ERA with 10 strikeouts and 14 walks in 16.2 innings.

His last three appearances were starts, and he pitched 10.2 innings, allowing two earned runs with four strikeouts and five walks.

The 6-foot-7, 245-pounder will have three years of eligibility remaining.  He’s pitching this summer for the Statesville Owls in the SCBL.  He’s pitched 15.1 innings with 31 strikeouts.  He has allowed one earned run in three starts.

Knowing nothing about this kids background, wondering if the staff thinks he could have a Shane Van Dam type leap? Obviously a huge dude so it wouldn't surprise me if he played a lot of football growing up. Of course I could be way wrong, but that could be cool

My cousin played with him at UNCP. For a pitcher coming from Division II, he has above average D1 Power Conference speed on his fastball. I think the average fastball velocity in the NCAA Tournament was under 91MPH, he's regularly 91-94, and has reached high 90s.

He's starting and pitching really well in the summer league he's in. Not sure about the competition in it but he's striking a lot out.

Every Holbrook or Holbrooks I've ever known can dead lift the back end of a stake body truck and punt a basketball 95 yards.

He is also from Wilkes county, different kind of "Country Strong" up that way.

Yep. West Wilkes HS to boot Millers Creek community.Went through that county countless times back when I was working.
