Need it to stay that way. Minimal stolen bids would be ideal.

Published before yesterday's win but also points out ND was left out of NCAA tournament with identical record last year.

NC State: The trend has not been NC State's friend for the better part of the last month. The Wolfpack have dropped four of their last five series, including this weekend at home against North Carolina.
At 13-16 in ACC play with the No. 52 RPI, the profile now aligns more closely with a tournament miss. Notre Dame provides a relevant recent comparison after missing the field last year at 14-16 in the ACC with the No. 48 RPI.
A deep ACC Tournament run now appears to be NC State's clearest path in Elliott Avent's 30th season leading the program.

Beating Duke on Tuesday will go a little to help secure a NCAA Tournament berth, a Can't lose type of game and not a good loss by any metric Duke (10-20) having a rough season.

Wow. If we can't get in over that first four out group then I don't know what to say.

Would a duke win actually help our metrics or is it a pointless game?
Obviously winning is important but conference championship games don't seem to matter in basketball.

Looks like NC State better beat Duke (10-20) tomorrow and not give NCAA selection committee another reason to leave us out.

Playing Duke and winning likely does not improve the metrics. Losing to Duke (10-20) is very damaging even know conference championship games do not matter much.
Losing to a bad team with losing record is will definitely hurt.

Goal has to be to get to GT. Win two games and see what you can do against one of the best teams in the country. No punishment for losing that one.

Definitely. A Top 20 team could get boat raced by GT, they are good.

Georgia Tech is legitimately incredible. They might be the best hitting team I've seen in recent years.

Neutral site games carry more weight. It's likely you see a modest boost in the RPI by beating Duke. Might be enough to around 39 or so

The funny thing is if we actually make a regional I am going to guess that the guy who has made 1 start all year will be starting game 1. Make it make sense.

NC State came in squarely on the bubble and gets boat raced by 16 seed Duke to kick off the ACC tournament.... yikes.

Final resume:
32-21 (14-16 ACC)
48 RPI
33 DSR
26 SOS
6-11 Q1

Annoying thing is that other bubble teams also lost today. All we had to do was give up less than 12 runs to the worst team in the league and we'd have a leg up on a regional. Oh well.

I'm afraid our pitching will be the reason we don't get in over any other bubble teams.

Wolfpack Woes: NC State's resume looks strikingly similar to 2025 Notre Dame's, and Selection Monday did not go well for the Irish. After losing to ACC No. 16 seed Duke, NC State fell to No. 49 in RPI with just 14 conference wins. Teams with that combination, 14 ACC wins and an RPI outside the top 45, have missed the tournament in both of the last two seasons.

The midmajor bubble teams (Troy/Louisiana) held their own tonight against higher seeded teams

Nevermind, Troy blows a 4 run lead in the ninth, loses to Southern Miss on a walkoff grand slam.

Even though they have to leave the room when discussing "their" team, they still can influence other discussions that indirectly affect their team.

The idea they have to leave the room has always been a little ridiculous, especially knowing the process as well as I do.

With UC Santa Barbara bowing out of the Big West tournament and UC San Diego winning the automatic bid, the Big West is now a two-bid league, which means there was a 'stolen' bid on Saturday. That moved Pittsburgh, which lost to North Carolina at the ACC tournament, off the board as a team in the field. Troy and Mercer are the first two teams out of the field. Mercer is such a unique case. The Bears have a strong RPI inside the Top 30, but it's also a mid-major with a poor non-conference SOS, along with iffy overall metrics. As for Troy, Skylar Meade's club has made quite an impression at the Sun Belt tournament this week. However, even with an emerging RPI, it's difficult to move the Trojans ahead of the Bears, who have a head-to-head series win the first weekend of the year.
